Are folic acid and folate the same thing? — Folic Acid with Vitamins B12 and B6, tab 40

Folate is the general name for all forms of vitamin B9, including natural compounds from food (leafy vegetables, legumes, liver) and synthetic folic acid, which is added to supplements and fortified foods. EVALAR B9 contains folic acid specifically — the standard synthetic form with well-studied bioavailability.

There is also methylfolate (5-MTHF) — the active form, which the body uses directly without further conversion. Some people with certain genetic characteristics (an MTHFR gene variant) utilise ordinary folic acid less well and may prefer methylfolate. If you know you have such a characteristic or want to find out which form is right for you, it is worth discussing this with a doctor.

For most people, folic acid at a dose of 600 µg is a straightforward and accessible way to add vitamin B9 to their diet, especially if their meals do not always include enough green vegetables and legumes.
