Eyebright is considered a mild plant, but that does not mean it suits absolutely everyone. It is worth consulting a doctor before you start taking it in the following cases:
- Chronic conditions — especially those affecting the liver, kidneys or digestive system, as these are the organs at which eyebright’s action is traditionally directed.
- Taking medicines — plant components may interact with some medicines; this is worth discussing with your doctor or pharmacist.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding — according to the label, these are contraindications, and eyebright is not taken during these periods.
- Individual intolerance — also a contraindication; if unwanted reactions occur, stop taking it.
For children, too, a separate consultation with a paediatrician is advisable before any herbal products are introduced into their diet.
