Are there any restrictions on the use of activated charcoal?

Although activated charcoal is a long-established and widely used sorbent, it has contraindications: individual sensitivity to its components, ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract during a flare-up, and intestinal obstruction. There are also situations in which it should be used with caution.

It is worth discussing its use with a doctor or pharmacist if:

  • you have a diagnosed disease of the stomach or intestines (an ulcer that is not flaring up, colitis, Crohn's disease and the like);
  • you are prone to constipation, as charcoal can make it worse by slowing the passage of intestinal contents;
  • the symptoms for which you want to take the sorbent recur often or are getting worse: this is a signal to get checked, not to self-medicate;
  • you take medication on a regular basis (see the question on compatibility).

Pregnant and breastfeeding women are advised to consult a specialist before using any supplements.

FARMGRUPP Aktiivsöe tabletid N50 is not intended for long-term uncontrolled use and is not a substitute for medical care for serious or recurring symptoms.
