Magnesium comes in different chemical forms: oxide, sulfate, citrate, glycinate and others. The main difference between them is bioavailability, that is, the proportion of the mineral that is actually absorbed in the intestine.
Magnesium oxide is the cheapest and most common form, but it is the least well absorbed: a significant part of it is simply excreted from the body. Magnesium citrate, which is used in this complex, dissolves in water much better and is therefore absorbed more efficiently. That is why citrate is often chosen for complexes aimed at supporting the nervous system, muscles and energy metabolism.
Magnesium is involved in hundreds of enzymatic reactions: it is needed for the transmission of nerve impulses, for proper muscle relaxation after contraction and for normal mineral metabolism. When the diet is short of magnesium — which is not uncommon with an unbalanced diet, heavy workloads or stress — the body does not get enough of this mineral even when taking a supplement with poor bioavailability. Choosing the citrate form reduces this risk.
It is important to understand that the supplement does not replace a balanced diet and is not a medicine. If you take other medicines or have a chronic condition, it is worth consulting a specialist before you start taking it.
