How are drops more convenient than vitamin D tablets or capsules?

Compared with tablets and capsules, drops have several practical features:

  • Easy dosing. The daily dose is 1 drop (4000 IU): there is no need to break a tablet or open a capsule. The number of drops should only be changed on a doctor's recommendation.
  • No need to swallow a large tablet or capsule. For people who find it hard to swallow tablets or capsules, the liquid form is a workable alternative.
  • Quick to mix with food. The drops can be added to a spoonful of oil, yoghurt or other fatty food — this does not change the composition and does not require washing down with water.

At the same time, the liquid form has its limitations: an opened bottle needs to be stored properly (oil-based formulas spoil faster on contact with air, heat and light), and the accuracy of counting drops depends on how the bottle is held and on practice. In this respect, tablets and capsules are easier to handle and stay stable for longer once the pack has been opened.

Choosing a form is a matter of personal convenience and the specific situation, not of one format being fundamentally better than another.
