Can I use this on my face, and what should I be careful about?

You can use this ointment on the face, but only in a very specific and limited way. Given its dense, occlusive texture, it is formulated as a spot treatment, not a moisturizer for the entire face. It may be suitable for applying to a single red patch, a small rough area, or an individual blemish that you wish to protect overnight.

There are several important precautions for facial use. Avoid the immediate eye area and all mucous membranes entirely, as the thick formula is not meant for these sensitive zones. If you have generally oily or acne-prone facial skin, this product might be too heavy and could potentially clog pores if used over large areas; its use should be strictly limited to tiny, specific spots. Since it leaves a visible whitish film (common with zinc oxide products), it is best applied in the evening. Always perform a patch test on a small, discreet area of your face or neck before wider use to check for tolerance. If you experience persistent irritation or any unexpected skin changes, discontinue use.
