This ointment contains both beeswax and birch tar, so it is not suitable for everyone. If you have a known allergy to bee products or to tar-based preparations, it is safest to avoid the product or to speak with a pharmacist or dermatologist before trying it. If you are not sure, do a patch test: apply a small amount to a small area of intact skin, for example the inner forearm, once a day for a couple of days, and watch for redness, itching or swelling. If any reaction appears, stop using it immediately and do not use it on larger areas.
For sensitive or reactive skin, the same patch-test advice applies. The formula is short — only a few ingredients — which makes it easier to identify what your skin is reacting to, but it does not guarantee tolerance. Use only on intact skin, and do not apply it to broken, weeping or infected skin.
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, living with a chronic skin condition or taking medication, consult a specialist before introducing a new skin-care product. This balm is a cosmetic product intended for external skin comfort and care; it is not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent any disease.
