Soft gelatin capsules are one of the formats in which the fishy smell and taste are minimal compared with liquid fish oil. The capsule shell isolates the contents, so contact with the fish oil when swallowing is practically ruled out.

Nevertheless, some people still experience a slight fishy aftertaste after taking it — especially if the capsule is chewed or taken on an empty stomach. To avoid this, the supplement is usually taken with a meal or immediately afterwards: food slows the passage of the capsule and reduces the likelihood of fishy-tasting burps.

Store the capsules as indicated on the label: tightly closed, in a dry place at 15–25 °C, away from direct sunlight.

If you have previously given up fish oil precisely because of its taste or smell, the capsule format is a more comfortable option for daily use.
