Because the oil is highly concentrated, it should never be applied directly to the skin. For a safe topical application, dilute it in a carrier oil such as sweet almond, jojoba, or fractionated coconut oil. A typical starting point is one to two drops of garlic oil per teaspoon (about 5 ml) of carrier oil, which creates a dilution of roughly 0.5‑1 %. Mix the drops thoroughly, then apply a small amount to the intended area and perform a patch test on the inner forearm for 24 hours before broader use. If any redness, itching, or burning occurs, wash the area gently with mild soap and water and discontinue use.
For diffusion, add only a few drops to the water reservoir of an ultrasonic diffuser or to the oil tray of a traditional aroma lamp; a safe starting amount is two to three drops for a 100 ml water capacity, which provides a noticeable scent without overwhelming the space. If you prefer a custom blend, mix one drop of garlic oil with two drops of a milder essential oil such as lavender or eucalyptus before adding the mixture to the diffuser. Ensure the area is well‑ventilated and avoid prolonged exposure in small, enclosed rooms, especially around children, pets, or individuals with sensitive respiratory systems. Do not apply the oil directly onto the heating element of a lamp, as this can cause uneven release and potential irritation.
