Medikomed Bergamot Essential Oil is a pure essential oil cold-pressed from the peel of the bergamot fruit (Citrus bergamia), a citrus hybrid grown primarily in the Calabria region of southern Italy. Bergamot essential oil is one of the most versatile and widely used essential oils in aromatherapy and perfumery: it provides the characteristic aromatic backbone of classic Eau de Cologne and is the defining scent of Earl Grey tea. Its aromatic profile is bright, fresh, and citrusy with a distinctive floral and slightly spicy undertone, balancing light sweetness with refreshing complexity.

In aromatherapy, bergamot essential oil is widely used in diffuser blends for its uplifting, fresh, and pleasant aromatic quality that creates an invigorating atmosphere. The 10 ml bottle is suitable for use in aroma diffusers, bath additions (when diluted in a carrier), and as a component in massage oil blends. Important note: bergamot essential oil naturally contains bergapten (a furanocoumarin), which makes it phototoxic — it should not be applied to skin areas that will be exposed to sunlight or UV light within 12 hours of application. If a non-phototoxic bergamot oil is required, choose a bergapten-free (FCF) version specifically.

Customer Questions
Is this bergamot oil safe to use on skin before going out in the sun?
It is crucial to understand that this product is a traditional bergamot essential oil, not an FCF (bergapten-free) version. It naturally contains bergapten, a furanocoumarin compound that significantly increases the skin's sensitivity to ultraviolet light. Applying this oil to skin that will be exposed to sunlight or UV rays can lead to severe phototoxic reactions, including burns, blistering, or long-term hyperpigmentation. For safe use, you must strictly avoid applying this oil to any areas of the body that may be exposed to the sun for at least 12 hours after application. This precaution applies even if you use it in a diluted massage oil or bath blend. If you wish to use bergamot in your daytime routine without this restriction, you would need to seek out a specific FCF (bergapten-free) bergamot oil, which is not what this SKU provides. Always dilute before skin contact and perform a patch test on a small area of insensitive skin first to check for local allergic reactions.
How does the aroma of Medikomed bergamot differ from other citrus oils?
Bergamot essential oil is often selected by those seeking a more complex aromatic profile than standard citrus oils. While sweet orange provides a familiar, comforting sweetness, bergamot delivers a fresher, brighter opening note. Conversely, while lemon is sharp and piercing, bergamot is softer, more rounded, and elegant. The cold-pressing process of the Citrus bergamia peel preserves a layered scent structure: it begins with sparkling citrus top notes, transitions into a gentle floral tone, and finishes with a slightly spicy nuance. This unique character makes it a favorite in perfumery for "lifting" fragrance compositions and connecting top notes with heart notes. In home aromatherapy, it creates a light, clean, and uplifting atmosphere that feels less heavy than some sweet citrus oils but less aggressive than lemon. It is well-known for its presence in Earl Grey tea and classic Eau de Cologne, offering a sophisticated aromatic experience suitable for focused work settings or evening relaxation.
Can I use this oil in a diffuser or for homemade cosmetics?
This 10 ml oil is versatile and fits well into several everyday routines. For ambient use, it is excellent in an aroma diffuser to make a space feel fresher and more balanced without relying on overpowering sweet scents. Its ability to create a lively atmosphere makes it suitable for various settings, from morning wake-up routines to evening baths. For personal care, it can be used for homemade cosmetic aromatisation as a citrus note in DIY blends. It is also commonly chosen for massage oil blends, provided it is properly diluted in a carrier oil before application to the skin. When creating these blends, remember that because this is a traditional oil with bergapten, any skin application requires strict adherence to sun avoidance protocols. It is not intended for direct application to the eyes or mucous membranes. Always ensure you are using high-quality carrier oils and proper dilution ratios to maintain skin safety.

Medikomed Bergamot Essential Oil 10 ml

Medikomed Bergamot Essential Oil 10 ml is a citrus essential oil made by cold-pressing the peel of Citrus bergamia. People usually choose bergamot when they want a fresher, brighter aroma than sweet orange, but softer and more rounded than lemon. It is well known from Earl Grey tea and classic Eau de Cologne, and in home aromatherapy it is often used to create a light, clean, uplifting atmosphere.

Character and aroma

What makes this oil interesting is both its origin and its character. Cold pressing preserves the fragrant compounds found in the fruit peel, giving bergamot its layered scent: sparkling citrus at first, then a gentle floral tone with a slightly spicy nuance. In diffuser blends, this kind of profile helps a room feel less heavy and more lively. In diluted body oils or bath blends, bergamot is often chosen by people who enjoy citrus notes but want something more elegant and less sharp.

Where it fits

Bergamot has a long tradition in perfumery because it “lifts” a fragrance composition and connects citrus top notes with softer heart notes. That makes Medikomed essential oil a versatile option for many settings:

  • Aroma diffuser: to make a space feel fresher and more balanced without sweet, overpowering scents.
  • Homemade cosmetic aromatisation: as a citrus note in DIY blends.
  • Massage oil blends: when properly diluted.
  • Everyday moments: an evening bath, a focused work setting, or whenever you want a livelier atmosphere.

Important notes and cautions

A key point to know: this is a traditional bergamot oil, not an FCF (bergapten-free) version. It naturally contains bergapten, a furanocoumarin that can make skin much more reactive to sunlight and UV exposure. Please keep the following in mind:

  • Always dilute before skin contact.
  • Do not apply it to areas that may see sun within 12 hours.
  • External use only; avoid eyes.
  • Use extra caution on sensitive skin, during pregnancy, or when choosing essential oils for children.
