Zinc ointment is an external-use remedy that provides a binding and drying effect.
When used on children, it helps prevent the occurrence of 'diaper' rash, protects against the effects of urine and other irritating substances, and soothes irritated skin.
It reduces exudation and oozing, thereby alleviating local irritations.
The symptomatic and protective effects of the preparation are attributed to zinc oxide. Zinc oxide, in combination with a vaseline base, forms a physical barrier, creating a protective covering on the skin that reduces the impact of irritating substances on the affected area and prevents the development of rashes.
Indications
Treatment and prevention of 'diaper' rash.
The preparation is also used as a first aid measure for minor skin injuries (minor burns, cuts, scratches, chafing).
Photocontact dermatitis.
Contraindications
Increased sensitivity to the preparation.
Side Effects
Reactions of increased sensitivity to the preparation may occur: itching, redness, allergic reactions at the sites of ointment application.
How to Apply, Treatment Course, and Dosage
For external use only.
'Diaper' rash in infants.
Treatment: Clean and dry the affected area before application. When the first signs of redness, chafing, or mild skin irritation appear, apply the ointment 3 or more times a day, as necessary, typically with every diaper change.
Prevention: Apply to the skin covered by a diaper, especially before sleep when the child may be in wet diapers for an extended period, before signs of irritation appear.
Cuts, scratches, and burns
Apply a thin layer and, if necessary, cover with a gauze bandage.
Apply only to superficial and non-infected lesions.
Photocontact dermatitis
Apply a thin layer of the ointment to affected areas of the skin 1-3 times a day.
